The “Thalassa” campaign is the first project, which integrates public awareness, environmental education campaigns and numerous participatory actions in order to engage people in the effort to actively protect the marine mammals (whales, dolphins, sperm whales and monk seals) living in the Greek Seas, and their natural environment.
The main objective of “Thalassa” is to inform, sensitize and activate the society and the relevant bodies, in regard to the current status of the marine mammal populations, threatened with extinction due to human related causes. The “Thalassa” project aims at establishing in the Greek society the “demand” for conserving all marine mammals as an important component of the marine environment. In order to accomplish the above the campaign has two main objectives:
- The increase of awareness and sensitisation, regarding the environmental problem’s importance and intensity, of numerous selected target groups of the Greek society and
- The promotion and adoption of an environmental friendly attitude and behaviour.
